There Is Something Cathartic About Washing My Car

As I continue to learn how to shoot and edit videos, I’m recording more of my “normal” life every day. An unexpected byproduct of making videos has been realizing how much of the simple things bring me peace. Do I need to spend hours washing my car/truck? Not really. Do I need to add multiple hours to the process by recording it? Absolutely not. Will I be recording every car wash from here on out? Probably.

There is something about taking care of the things we own that soothes the soul, and I say this as someone who is definitely guilty of buying my way to happiness at times (who doesn’t love a little retail therapy at times!). I’m by no means at the kintsugi level of caring for my stuff- most of my “stuff” exists as a pile of procrastination covered in a tarp of refusing to let go- but the process of taking care of things is even more enjoyable when I’m documenting it on YouTube and using it to learn new things.

It may not solve my problems but the process does something for me that I can’t put into words.

And if you know me, you know that doesn’t happen often.
