One of Those Days

Nick Engvall — Cars. Kicks. Content.

Today was one of those days, not one of those days that feels like a Monday (although personally I like Mondays), or one of those days that seems like everything that can go wrong does. Today was one of those days when nothing particularly out of the ordinary happened. I didn’t win the lottery, take … Read more

Thanksgiving in Colorado: Full Circle

For Thanksgiving, a much needed visit to Colorado had been planned. Although I think I’d prefer the slow pace and majestic views of a train ride, time was not as plentiful as we’d have liked for this trip. It has been awhile since I visited with Mom and Pops, well over a year. The last … Read more

Underachievers…

Nick Engvall — Cars. Kicks. Content.

As I passed by one of those “monumental” ages last month, I can’t help but play up the age card any chance I get lately. I’ve definitely fell short of some of my own expectations, but I like to believe I’m a late bloomer. Either way I am definitely an underachiever. I’ve come to realize … Read more

The World’s Happiest Cities: San Francisco

MMMM!!!According to a recent Forbes survey, San Francisco was ranked as the 7th Happiest City in the world (the only city in the US). I’m biased of course, but recently attended an event at Union Square that celebrated the 40th Anniversary of the Woodstock. More specifically the performance of The Who’s Tommy, and Pinball Wizard. To celebrate, 100’s of people showed up, and after an amazing performance presented by Wolfgang’s Vault, the crowd had there chance to play their finest air guitar rifs.

Since I haven’t been to The City since my move to Austin, I had to at least partake in some clam chowder, and of course, some people watching. SF is a goldmine for people watchers like myself, especially with a camera in hand. Some of my favorite things about The City are the amount of skateboarding, bicycling, and overall activeness that goes on. This particular day I was able to catch a trio of skateboarders with an incredible amount of determination. Check out some of the pictures of them, and the Flash Mob below.

Adidas Special Ops – Guerrilla Marketing at It’s Best

House of Pain x Adidas Campus 80's Mission Accomplished!

Since March I have been hunting for some sneakers, specifically the House of Pain x

Adidas Campus 80’s. When these shoes came out I was able to get my hands on a pair of size 14’s, one size too big. I bought them with the intention of reselling them and using the money to pick up a size 13, because there is now way I can own a pair of shoes and not wear them. Wearing a 14 was out of the question. I was able to resell the 14’s fairly quickly, within a day or two, but unfortunately the one size 13 on eBay had already disappeared. So I added it to my notifications that day so eBay would email me every time a new listing was posted that included House of Pain and Adidas. I was amazed, and entertained at how many people use irrelevant keywords, but I have not seen a single size 13 since March.

After hunting through the pages and pages of for sale posts on all of the sneaker message boards, I thought I would give twitter a try. The following is what I posted…

Rest In Peace Tupac Shakur

Tupac Shakur (2Pac) Wearing Air Jordan 9

Every year on this day especially, I find myself explaining to people how Tupac Shakur influenced my life. It seems odd to most people that a person, obviously worlds apart from my path in this world, could mean so much to me. So I’ve decided rather than write a poem, only to have people think I took it from another person, I would write it in this way.

My goal in this life is simple. I want to leave this world a better place than it was when I was brought into it. At this point in my life, I don’t know as to the degree of influence I will have, but I do know that each and everyday that is my goal. Tupac was a man who had this same goal in mind. I am not a gangster, a rapper, a musician, an actor, a politician, a music mogul, a revolutionary, or a Panther, like the people he connected with in his day-to-day life, yet somehow I connected with him through his words without ever meeting him.

I don’t know exactly when I heard Tupac’s music for the first time. I have always listened to an extremely wide variety of music all of my life…
