A couple months ago I came across this Kickstarter for GoSun Flatware and I’m giving up plastic utensils as soon as my order shows up. Last year, I purchased these and stopped using plastic straws almost entirely. There was a handful of times in 2019 when I used plastic straws and it feels pretty good to have been able to shift my habits to carrying metal straws in the car, the place where plastic straws from quick stops at gas stations and fast food joints were formerly a mindless habit of mine.
The way I look at it, you wouldn’t intentionally hurt your friends and family just to make it convenient for yourself. So why is it, that so many of us humans do things that are known to be harmful to the planet in the name of convenience? I think it’s much bigger than we realize and most of us are programmed by the advertising and onslaught of media ads that ruminate in our minds and take over when we’re too tired to consciously make the best decisions for ourselves, our future generations, and the planet we live on.
So for 2020, one of my goals is to continue to make an effort to be better with my decisions. One of the purchases I am most excited about is the GoSun credit card sized flat silverware. On top of it being a better choice for the environmental aspects, it’s also kind of like a James Bond-ish cool guy thing as well. Soon, I’ll be riding around the world in a Sprinter van, checking off items from my bucket list, and eating with my credit card sized metal flatware. That’s why I’m giving up plastic utensils. ✌️
