adidas Player Exclusives: A break down of Chauncey Billups adidas shoes.
I’ve been a fan of Chauncey Billups since I was in high school. As a freshman, I remember seeing Billups play at George Washington in Denver. He was a couple of years older than me but easily the best player in the state back then and someone I looked up to. It’s taken me a while to hunt down some of his adidas Player Exclusives (without paying outrageous prices that is). One thing that makes it easier is that Billups never changes shoes! He’s been wearing the adidas TS Lightning Creator PE for a couple of years now, even having adidas make him a New York Knicks colorway as recently as April of this year. Since I spent my high school years in Colorado, I became somewhat of a Denver Nuggets fan, especially when the team landed Jalen Rose of the Fab Five.
I rarely buy any shoes that are not my size, or at least close enough to wear, so Billup’s size 13 has always been something I’ve searched for. The more I’ve looked for Chauncey Billups’ PE’s the more interesting things I seem to find. It seems like Billups has had a few variations of the adidas TS Lightning Creator. The first and most common version features his number 7 jersey number on the outer forefoot. From what I’ve found, this version came in a home, White, Blue and Yellow colorway but Billups also wore the same colorway on the road with the light blue Nuggets jerseys. The version of the TS Lightning Creator that Chauncey wore while wearing the jersey number 7 (2008-2009 season) was similar to the TS Creator that he wore with the Pistons, in that it was made available in various sizes at adidas retailers.
Since Chauncey opted to stick with the TS Lightning Creator, for the 2009-2010 season, adidas had to switch up the details ever so slightly. Billups went back to jersey number 1, the same number he wore in Detroit. Meaning, the number 7 on the forefoot had to be changed. Replacing his jersey number was his nickname, “Mr. Big Shot.” For this version of Billups’ PE, there were two versions, a home colorway with White, Light Blue, and Yellow, and an away colorway with a Black base color and Light Blue, Yellow and White accents. These versions never released at retail that I am aware of and were only made in Chauncey’s size 13. I was able to obtain a pair of the home colorway which you can see below, along with the various versions of Chauncey Billups adidas shoes.
